Gender and the <i>privacy paradox</i> in Chinese college students’ locative dating communication

This article explores the role gender plays in addressing privacy paradox context of young Chinese people’s locative dating communication. Based on a case study 19 college students, I explore differing management strategies adopted by female and male participants their use WeChat People Nearby. gendered phenomenon reveals how Nearby works within patriarchal society to pose more privacy-related risks women than men The research findings shed new light socio-technological processes through which existing power relations are reproduced social media applications.
